Wild

The wild chase
Wind in my hair
The horse between my legs
The dogs barking
This is my life
My embroidery
Lies forgotten in the parlour
Where my mother tried to teach me
How to be a lady.
I can see the despair in their eyes
I should have been born a son.
My cousin races before me
Whispering encouragement
To his horse in a way I cannot
He always win.
I throw my head back and laugh
Not giggle
He always cheats.
The stag appears in front of us
The dogs barks as they circle it
I reach for my bow and arrows
Releasing them
The stag falls
The hunt is over.
I am alive.
